case study – intimus
intimus is an German-based international supplier of information security, business information, and cash management solutions. A developer and distributor of some of the most secure data destruction devices in the world, the company has offices in 10 countries across the globe.
it’s one thing to have a great product. it’s another to make the world aware of it.
In 2017, the American branch of intimus approached us about developing a new e-commerce site for the firm. While the company designed and distributed many high quality and well-respected products, they had fallen behind their competitors when it came to digital marketing.
Their existing site had thin content that was often awkwardly translated from German. In addition, many English-language pages had URL structures utilizing German words and phrases, which undermined the site’s SEO value. The site simply wasn’t doing its part to bolster the company’s sales, both here and abroad.
They needed a website that would address these issues, with a fresh and modern design that better promoted their products with rich imagery and more in-depth content.
getting a handle on a very large project.
E-commerce web projects are typically very complex, and intimus was certainly no exception. Not only did the company offer a great many products—it marketed them in more than half a dozen languages. Thus, we quickly had to get a grip on the project and establish an organized approach.
First, it was determined that site development would focus on the English-language site, which the majority of their customers used. The English site would be launched utilizing new content and the new design and structure, while keeping the non-English pages as is until the second phase of development.
a big e-commerce site needs a lot of content.
One of the key shortcomings of the old site was, as noted above, the content. Our copywriters set to work developing a great deal of new content describing specific products, as well as content for long-neglected category pages, such as those devoted to top security shredders, hard drive degaussers, industrial shredders, and more.
In addition, we provided guidance for the development of additional content, such as blog posts and white papers.
creating an accommodating design.
intimus sells a huge variety of products, and thus, we often had to find creative ways to regroup and reorganize content for the sake of consumer convenience and SEO, while doing it in an appealing manner. A key example of were the pages dedicated to the company’s many industrial shredding products, a once-profitable product line that had seen sales decline.
Our designers, after some careful consideration, remedied the issue of the individual products competing with one another for search rankings due to largely similar characteristics and functionality. They designed an extensive, imagery-rich page dedicated to the full line of industrial shredding products and the financial benefits they offer to businesses and organizations.
After an extensive design and development phase, the site was launched on our hosting service, and quickly began to generate sales. We are continuing to work with intimus, porting over translated content into an expanded version of the site, which will go live when completed. Given the scope of the project, this will be an ongoing relationship for some time, and we look forward to continuing to have the opportunity to work with intimus.
