Orchard’s End is a planned redevelopment of a historic retail building in Vacaville, California. The location will house a brew pub, multiple restaurants, and retail and office spaces. The first business in the renovated building is scheduled to open in 2017.

A Renovated Website for a Renovated Business Building
We have worked a vast variety of businesses and organizations over the years, but even by our standards, Orchard’s End was something different: A project involving the renovation and redesign of a historic grocery building in Vacaville, California, with the goal of attracting a number of food service-based businesses, retail stores, and more.
The Orchard’s End team–comprised of a family of long-time Vacaville locals–needed a web development company that could capture their dream, and make it inviting and interesting to both business owners and the local community as a whole.
Goals for the New Website
With construction on the building underway, the Orchard’s End website needed to accomplish a number of goals, and in a hurry:
- Attract Tenants. The site needed to explain the vision for the building, and communicate leasing details, with contact info for the commercial broker handling the leases.
- Grow Community Awareness. Members of the local Vacaville community needed to be made aware of what was going on, in order to build local excitement about the project. The goal was to get locals following the Orchard’s End project on Facebook and/or through a mailing list, where they could receive invitations to related events, such as the groundbreaking and grand opening.
- Advertise for Tenants. The vision for Orchard’s End was to develop a tight-knit relationship between the build owners, tenants, and community. To further this, the Orchard’s End site would advertise details about tenants, publicize onsite events such as farmer’s markets and musical events, and so on.
One of the biggest challenges of the Orchard’s End project was that there was little time to waste. The site needed to be up within 2 to 3 weeks. While we pride ourselves on our quick web development timelines, that’s a pretty tight schedule.
In order to accommodate the necessity of launching the site quickly, we decided to start with a template, and then customize it to fit their needs. The Orchard’s End team wanted a site that told their story quickly, and without any unnecessary complication. Consequently, we decided to design it as a one page site, with a header menu that allowed visitors to immediately find desired information.
Lastly, they needed a way to easily add photos and tenant information as the business project progressed, so we used a visual site builder so that they would be able to add the content themselves, rather than be beholden to us or another web developer.
Thankfully, we met the challenging deadline for the Orchard’s End website, and it was launched without issue.
