Pushing Your Personal Brand
Most companies rely solely on their overarching brand image as a face for the company. But there are a few fortunate companies with executives and creative minds that have the personality and drive necessary to cultivate their own personal brands.
Marilyn Weinstein is one of those minds. The CEO of Bay Area IT staffing firm Vivo, she has long enjoyed putting her snarky sense of humor on display in the company’s social media marketing. Now, she wanted to take that a step further and create a platform where she could leverage her writing and worldview into a brand of her own, raising awareness for both herself and Vivo.
Envisioning the Brand
Marilyn approached us about developing the blog site while we developing Vivo’s new website. At the time, all she had was a placeholder site with a couple of blog posts.
The main goal was to develop a design that reflected Marilyn’s sense of style and what she wanted for her brand. Josh Rubin, Post Modern Marketing’s CMO, immediately grasped Marilyn’s vision and her goals for the blog, and provided guidance for the photography shoot that was used to capture the images used on the homepage and elsewhere.
Making the Website Her Own
We developed a series of design mockups, and quickly developed the website once the designed were adjusted and approved. We implemented the requisite search engine optimization, and provided help and guidance for sharing videos through the site with an embedded tutorial on the back end. Our chief goal was to give Marilyn and her staff the tools they need in order to successfully use and grow the site over the next few years.
Overall, the project went incredibly smoothly. The only real challenge was finding time for photography, between Marilyn’s busy schedule and the Bay Area’s temperamental weather. We worked around the photography delays by building the design with demo photos similar in style to what we envisioned for the final result. Once we finally had Marilyn’s photos, we replaced the demo images and we were ready to go.
Providing technical support for the site, including web hosting, was a smooth process as we were already doing so for Vivo. However, we did install an SSL certificate for website security.
Overall, the process went great. One of Marilyn’s staff mentioned in an email as we were wrapping up, “The site looks great! Thanks for all your help.”
Marilyn immediately started using the site once it went live, approaching it with the same drive that she applies to her day job. Since the launched in mid-March, she’s added four blog posts, and shows no signs of stopping.
Working with Marilyn was a pleasure, which came as no surprise, given that the Vivo project was similarly smooth. We wish Marilyn the best of luck in growing her brand, and look forward to working with her again!
